This season Milton Keynes Gallery presents the first solo exhibition in the UK by German artist over life size colour pencil drawings.
Whether working in performance or drawing, Schrey, the artist, is always the subject of her own work. Poses range from the provocative to the innocent suggesting an attempt to convey a feeling, although overall the drawings retain a sense of clinical detachment. Schrey’s influences vary: the media, the fashion industry and art history can sometimes be detected in the drawings. Occasionally, the poses she adopts have been informed by performances she has made in which members of the public are invited to choose dress, style and gesture.
