Yukari Kaihori was born in Japan, has a BA from Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon, US and currently lives in Wellington, New Zealand. Combining observations of her adopted homeland, memories of Japan where she grew up and of her formative years in Oregon, her works are fuelled by a deep attraction and admiration for nature which she shares with one of her favourite artists, Georgia O’Keeffe, who said: ”Nothing is less real than realism. Details are confusing. It is only selection, by elimination, by emphasis that we get at the real meaning of things”.

Yukari has exhibited her works in the UK, Japan and New Zealand.

  1. Hi, nice work Yukari, if you want to see some large scale works that push spotty, dotty, and splash works to the limit, check out my work, painted from the wild South Island of New Zealand. Keep painting wild and free, Yeehaa!

”Nothing is less real than realism.”Your friend said it well. People dont understand abstract art but nature, shapes and colors of nature are also abstract.

  4. I love your work! The colors, the lightness, the Japanese feel to it. On a very personal level it strikes a chord within myself and my own Japanese heritage. But I think your work is also universal!

Hello Yukari! How are you? Good I hope! I was looking at some of your artwork right after I’ve received an E-mail from the website and I have to tell you, your work is magnificent! Your style is very unique and creative. It’s amazing on how you have used the combinations of nature between the places where you have been, and some of the things from Japan as well. I find it amazing, so continue in what you are doing!

Hello Yukari, It is interesting that you have moved to New Zealand. Did you expect to be inspired there? I love to move around also and I find my work changes in response to new environs.
Think of Matisse going to Morocco or Klee traveling to Egypt.
Your work is very evocative and reminds me of scenes I have been in..
    good wishes for the future.
